Air was appointed in 2007 by Land Securities, CSC and Benoy Architects as their wayfinding and signing partner. Our brief was to develop external and internal bespoke signing including wayfinding, graphics, product design and implementation management for the scheme.
Our remit extended beyond the boundaries of the scheme to include designing a new mapping and signing system for Cardiff City Council itself, allowing us to literally put St David's on the map for residents and visitors of the city. We have also designed the touchscreen system for the mall, which includes interactive journey planners, live transport information and centre news and events. This is run by a system which links to the website, meaning the two channels can be updated at once.
The refurbishment of the centre has been a huge success: footfall figures in 2010 were 70% up on those from 2008 and the average spend has increased by a significant 60%. St David’s was also crowned “International Shopping Centre of the Year” in 2010 by Global Retail Leisure International.
